According to AdNews’ June publication Facebook is now allowing the ability to post animated GIFs on Facebook newsfeeds. This has been hailed as an opportunity for brands to win back some organic reach on Facebook and a huge opportunity to engage users in a new way. The News Wrap outlined that animated GIFs give brands the opportunity to be the loudest in the room, and are popular with youth-focussed sites like Tumblr, Reddit and BuzzFeed.
Instagram
AdNews also reported that Instagram has added click-to-buy and has improved its targeting, trackability and measurability – for those keen to explore what avenues Instagram has to offer.
Publishing Content
AdNews also reported that Facebook has made it easier to publish content in Facebook – whilst Apple has launched Apple News – which gathers content from several publishers, to deliver news content to phones. In both cases the aim is easier publishing and consumption of premium quality content. According to AdNews’ Sarah Homewood, this allows publishers a potentially greater audience for their content and the potential to get more revenue, and Apple and Facebook get more content to control. This is useful to note for those distributing media releases or seeking publicity, and it will be interesting to see if more reach is ultimately gained.
